Morley selected as finalist in 2024 Green Gown Awards
Morley College London has achieved a significant green milestone – with two nominations for the final of the prestigious 2024 Green Gown Awards UK & Ireland.
The awards, held in association with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), recognise outstanding sustainability initiatives across the post-16 education sector. This year’s finalists represent 84 institutions, demonstrating the sector’s growing commitment to environmental sustainability.
“The Green Gown Awards recognise the exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges. We are thrilled to say that Morley College’s Carbon Literacy Training programme and Community Green Hub in Stockwell have been recognised by the Green Gown Awards for these initiatives and shortlisted for both projects in the Community Impact 2030 category.
These projects have been made possible through the hard work of the community learning team, sustainability champions, project manager and the sustainability steering group.”
said Bushra Iqbal, Vice Principal and Centre Principal, Waterloo Centre for Adult Education and Stockwell.
Green Hub: Raising awareness and competence
In our commitment to advancing sustainability at Morley, we have established the Green Hub at our Stockwell Centre. The hub is a platform for courses, training sessions and workshops focused on climate change and sustainability. Using sustainable furniture and state-of-the-art equipment, including hydroponic growing systems, renewable energy kits, and solar hydrogen technology, the Green Hub aims to foster pro-environmental behaviours among students.
By providing practical solutions to environmental challenges, particularly global warming, we strive to equip our students with the knowledge and skills in sustainable practices. Our goal is to make green skills second nature, seamlessly integrated into daily habits, contributing to a more sustainable future.
Carbon Literary Training
Our Carbon Literacy Training program aims to educate students, staff, and the wider community on the importance of understanding and reducing carbon footprints. This training empowers individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to take meaningful action against climate change.
