Morley Opera School Presents Opera Scenes
…
‘I am thrilled by this excellent news,’ said Michalis Angelakis, Programme Manager for Vocal Studies and Head of Opera at Morley. ‘Our students have put their all into every area of their studies. Their dedication and talent has now been rewarded.’
‘There is no doubt that the standard of performance has risen every year,’ said Peter Collyer, Head of Music and Performing Arts. ‘These progression stories show that our opera school is providing exactly the range of stage and vocal skills that the conservatoires are looking for, and which give the students the firm foundations they need for the professional careers that should follow.’
The Morley Opera School is a long established one-year, part-time opera course. The course is run in a similar manner to a professional opera company, so all students have the opportunity to take part in public performances from concerts and recitals to staged opera scenes.
Students develop core skills essential to the operatic profession such as stagecraft, movement and vocal expression, and experience the demands of preparing, rehearsing and performing a variety of repertoire. They learn how to work as part of an ensemble and receive guidance on artistic development to prepare them for future careers.
For singers hoping to get started on their opera journey, the Introduction to Opera Studies course offers the key skills to help students progress. Two students from this introductory course moved on to the Morley Opera School, and are now advancing to higher study. ‘Morley has been absolutely instrumental in my journey as a performer,’ said Owain Evans. ‘Throughout my time there I received the best and most invaluable teaching in interpretation, vocal development and stagecraft.’
Hester Dart studied at the Morley Opera School in 2018-19. ‘Morley Opera School really improved my confidence and broadened my horizons’, they said. ‘The fun and supportive environment combined with expert tuition creates a great balance in which to push yourself and grow as a performer.’
We congratulate the following students and wish them all the best in their studies: Elspeth Piggott, Ella Joy, Owain Evans, Nick Bown, Camilla Seale, Hannah Morley, Sara Vergara Muro, Dominic Mattos, Anna Fitzgerald, Hester Dart.
Auditions are now open for our Summer Term, and will take place on 25 & 26 March. Read more about the Morley Opera School.
The Morley Opera School continues to scale great heights, with students progressing to masters degrees on some of the most prestigious music programmes in the country.
