Penny Lecture: Martino Tirimo – The Poetry of Chopin

Join us for an unforgettable Penny Lecture and recital by Martino Tirimo, one of the world’s most celebrated pianists and esteemed tutor on Morley’s Advanced Piano Masterclass course.

In this Penny Lecture, Tirimo explores the expressive depth of Chopin’s music, sharing insights into the emotional nuances and poetic qualities that define the composer’s work.

Alongside a discussion of Chopin’s unique approach to melody and rhythm, Tirimo will perform several of his most beloved pieces, including the serene Andante spianato and Grand Polonaise op. 22  in Morley’s beautiful Holst Room.  How does Chopin’s music speak to us today? What makes his compositions feel so deeply personal, yet universally relatable?  Don’t miss this opportunity to reflect on these questions, while experiencing the sublime beauty of Chopin’s piano works.

From age eight, Tirimo was performing Concertos and at 12 conducted seven complete performances of ‘La Traviata’, with orchestra and soloists from La Scala, Milano. Matrino is a pianist and conductor, he has performed worldwide – including tours in China, Japan, and major European venues. He has recorded the complete works of Beethoven and Mozart’s Sonatas, with his 16-CD set of Beethoven’s piano solo works earning high praise. He performed Beethoven’s Concerto No. 4 with the Vienna Philharmonic during the Athens Olympics and had the honour of running with the Olympic torch. His contributions to music have been widely recognised, including the Nemitsas Foundation Prize for Excellence in the Arts and Sciences.
