Open Day: Waterloo Centre

Our open evening on Wednesday 16 October 2024 is a great opportunity to find out more about our Waterloo Centre for Adult Education.

From 100s of courses in the visual arts, music, voice and song, to performance and all types of dances to creative writing, science, fitness and wellbeing to a great choice of languages like European, Asian and African ones.

We also offer maths, English and science, up to GCSE and Access to HE and higher education courses including top-up degrees in fashion, music and visual arts.

Our centre is based in vibrant Waterloo, a ten-minute walk from Waterloo station and three minutes from Lambeth North underground station.

17:00 – 19:00Science with Joanna Rowntree
– Skeleton for window dressing
– microscope and a few slides to look at (biology)
– turn the Hand cranked generator to light a bulb and see the numbers on a meter (physics)
– use indicator paper to measure pH of some food items (turns pretty colours) (chemistry)
17:00- 17:30Vogue Dance with Tony Tran: Open to all, Vogue Dance will introduce you to the skills and style of this vibrant and expressive dance form.

17:00 – 18:00Harmonica with Jonathan Watkins : During this one hour class you will get introduced to the basics of playing the harmonica. You will learn how to play single notes, play a simple tune, make the harmonica like a train and take your steps into playing the blues n the harmonica. No prior musical is experience is necessary. All you will need is ten hole diatonic harmonica in the key of C.

17:00 – 18:30Improvisation and Play Workshop with Chloe Stephens: This workshop will focus on developing your sense of spontaneity and fun through performance, and is an introduction to the drama department at Morley College London. In this playful workshop you will develop your imaginative skills, play drama games and meet others interested in improvisation and performance.

17:30 – 18:00 Just Jiving with Tony Huber: Join and learn Just Jiving (Modern Jive) what is possibly the most popular and versatile partner dance at present. Learn to Just Jiving (Modern Jive) in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

18:00 – 18:30 Flamenco – Absolute Beginners Taster with Fenella Barker: Absolute Beginners Flamenco Dance is designed to suit those with no prior experience of Flamenco dance. Completion of this course will prepare you to enrol on our next level of provision – Flamenco Beginners and Improvers.

18:00 – 19:00Japanese Card Making with Hisano Luttman: If you are interested in Japanese and would like to make your own cards for any other festive occasion, why not attend this workshop. Hisano Luttman is a languages tutor at Morley. She is also an artist and the daughter of a calligraphy master.
