London Craft Week 2023: Waterloo Centre

Spend a leisurely weekend exploring interactive craft workshops led by well-known artists and makers at our Chelsea Centre for Creative Industries. Try your hand at something new in our range of introductory workshops including printmaking, 3D modelling, screen-printing, pattern cutting, sculpting organic forms, millinery and black and white photography.
By linking art and practical skills, people can make a living doing what they love. But it’s also about the people you meet along your journey. Come and join us for London Craft Week and find your calling.

Saturday 13 May: 11:00 – 15:00 Pattern Cutting (materials fee £5.00)
Introduction to zero waste pattern cutting. You will on the day create a pattern to make a simple dress or a pair of simple trousers. You will make the pattern out of calico or for those of you that feel more competent you can bring your own fabric. Time allowing you will hopefully get to construct the pattern into a garment.
Saturday 13 May: 11:00 – 15:00 Millinery (materials fee £6.00) Course cancelled
Ribbon Cockade: You will be introduced to ribbon artistry, making lovely vintage cockades that can adorn your hats or be used on their own. Workshop will run in small numbers so everyone will have plenty of time with the lecturer.
Saturday 13 May: 11:00 – 12:30 Printmaking – Mono Print
Mono Print: Explore monoprint and drypoint techniques as an introduction to intaglio and relief printmaking, and make images that explore line, tone and texture to produce unique and exciting prints. By the end of this course, you will be able to: make monoprints in a variety of ways, make drypoint plates on card, metal or plastic, and be able to ink and print them.
Saturday 13 May: 12:00 – 14:00 Cyanotypes, Lumen prints and Photograms workshop
This exciting workshop will take you back to the beginning of camera-less photography allowing you to explore photographic and solar printing processes such as Lumen prints, Cyanotypes and Photograms. You will be using leaves, flowers and fruits, as well as man-made objects. During the course, the tutor will provide a step-by-step guidance, which will include mixing chemicals, coating techniques and processing procedures for the making of creative results. By the end of the workshop, you would have acquired skills that you can use and experiment at your own time.
Saturday 13 May: 13:30 – 15:00 Printmaking – Silkscreen
Learn how to make silkscreen prints. You will learn how to stretch and prepare a screen, explore different methods of screen printing, make a series of colourful mono prints using colour blends, mask out the screen using leaves and found shapes. You will make stencils by tearing shapes from news print to create backgrounds, using a light box create more considered designs in response to your existing prints and cut more accurate and sophisticated stencils using a cutting blade.
