We are Morley on International Women's Day
…
In this Penny Lecture, hosted at Morley’s Chelsea Centre for the Creative Industries and during the week of International Women’s Day, Jenny will introduce her work and discuss her creative process.
Jenny Matthews is a documentary photographer and film maker. Since 1982 she has been documenting social issues in Britain and abroad. Her major project on Women and War led to a book and touring exhibition in 2003, and she has continues to document the lives of women in places affected by conflict.
Jenny is a member of Panos Photographers and she has worked for leading international development organisations (including ActionAid, Care International, Christian Aid, Oxfam and Save the Children) and has been published in major magazines and newspapers worldwide.
She has also facilitated photography projects with young people in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Eastern Europe, and with migrant women in Indonesia. During Covid 19 she started making photo quilts, selecting images from her archive and printing them on linen, three of these Quilts were selected for the Format Photo Festival and the series will be exhibited in Glasgow next year.
