What you will learn

An opportunity to study in a highly creative specialist Fashion Foundation programme in Central London that will fully immerse you in all aspects of the creative processes within fashion. Close to important museums and galleries, this dynamic course is taught by a team of dedicated tutors with current industry experience. On this exciting and challenging one-year course you will be encouraged to learn through exploration and discovery. Highly experienced tutors and practitioners will deliver projects and workshops that are designed to build on your existing skills and introduce and develop new skills and knowledge through research, design development, fashion illustration, textiles, styling and promotion. The course will challenge and unleash your creativity and develop the problem solving, collaboration and independent skills needs for success in this fast paced industry. The programme of study is predominantly experimental allowing you to identify your interests and strengths through investigation into visual language and creative practices. This exploratory investigation allows you to become familiar with, and experiment within a broad range of creative disciplines,collaborating with students from related art and design subjects at Morley Chelsea Creative Centre, as part of your journey to reinforce your specialism. As pat of the Chelse Cetnre for Creative industires you will form part of a dynamic community of like minded people and a well resouced environment where you will be able to find voice and direction to your work. Small class sizes ensure all students are supported and encouraged to develop your own visual language through a portfolio of work that reflects your interests on your chosen pathway. This holistic approach will support the production of work that reflects contemporary professional practice and position your creative endeavour within your chosen specialist practise.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Demonstrate awareness of the different perspectives, approaches and ethics within diverse creative practice.
Research, analyse and evaluate relevant information as part of their creative practice.

On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: Foundation Diploma in Art and Design [UAL]

Class format and activities

You will have access to 24 -7 learning with a blend of in college practical activities and workshops supported by dynamic online resources via Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams. Your learning is further enriched with a range of study visits to museums and galleries. Set projects, in conjunction with, workshops, group work, individual tutorials will develop your skills and independent thinking. Assessment Methods: There will be stage assessments at the end of parts 1, 2 and 3. These will be completed through individual tutorials and written assessments that provide an opportunity for staff and students to discuss the work and its progress. Regular feedback and personalised target setting are used to guide the students to make the necessary improvements to their work. The first and second stages are recorded as a Pass (assessment criteria is provided by UAL and is presented with each project brief). The final stage (Unit 3) is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Entry requirements

The standard requirements for entry to this course are: A L3 Qualification and English or Maths at GCSE English Language Requirements for overseas students: IELTS level 5.0 or above, with at least 4.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking Other relevant and equivalent qualifications are considered on an individual basis. If you are under 19 and are yet to achieve your GCSE English or maths at grade 4 you will be provided with the opportunity to study these. All students are requested to attend an interview with a portfolio of current work that demonstrates ability in research skills, drawing, creative thinking and problem-solving skills and an interest in art, design or related subjects including textiles or photography. Applicants must demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for fashion and related subjects.

This is a fast-moving course based at the Chelsea centre for creative industries you will meet many like minded people and form part of a dynamic and supportive creative community. You will be expected to put time in outside of course hours to achieve a high standard of work.

Applicants must demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for fashion and related subjects and a positive attitude with plenty of enthusiasm and commitment to study. You will be eager to learn and ready to challenge yourself. An equipment list is provided upon acceptance to the course.
