What you will learn

Learn how to illustrate and produce creative designs for tote bags. You will be supported by a tutor to enable you to explore a range of illustration techniques such as freehand drawing, heat transfer and printing on to tote bags.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Use illustration techniques including digital and non-digital methods to create 3 tote bag designs.
  • Produce a freehand design for a tote bag using fabric pens.
  • Create a heat transfer design for a tote bag.
  • Use print techniques to apply to a tote bag.

Class format and activities

You will be introduced to the techniques step by step, by demonstration and one-to-one feedback where each student’s personal strengths and interests are developed.

Entry requirements

This course is suitable for beginners but some previous art experience would ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course.

What you need to know before you enrol

Consider the imagery that you might wish to use and prepare some initial ideas or photographs that you would like to incorporate in to your own designs for tote bags.

What you need

You need to bring source material to work from such as drawings, sketches, photographs, etc. Be prepared to buy your own cotton tote bags and to pay for heat transfer paper-£1.00 per A4 sheet.

You could progress on to other short courses in printmaking, screen printing, t-shirt design or other art subjects.
