This class is open to beginners who want to explore the foundations and contemporary practices of the ceramics medium.
The main objective of this course is to cultivate artistic skills and foster creative expression. The primary emphasis is on exploring the artistic possibilities of the medium, rather than focusing on the production of functional ceramic wares. Students will have the opportunity to delve into the creative aspects of ceramics and expand their artistic horizons through various projects and exercises. There is some physical activity in ceramics, for example carrying a bag of clay (12.5kg), wedging or rolling out clay, which requires a moderate level of physical fitness - if you have any concerns (back problems, for example) please talk to your tutor who will be happy to give guidance, or assistance if required.
A sketchbook and pen are useful. You will also need an apron or old shirt. Your tutor will advise you about which tools to purchase. Clay is available to purchase from your tutor.
