A practical introduction to drawing skills, using a range of materials. You will be taught various aspects of drawing from observation including proportion, perspective, line and tone. Examples of historical and contemporary drawing will be discussed in class and learners are encouraged to develop a personal response to subjects including landscape, portraits, objects and photographic images.
The course focusses on drawing from direct observation and from photographs, using a variety of materials and techniques. During class time, you will meet your tutor and fellow students for group tuition, 1:1 tutorials, group discussion and feedback. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
This structured course is for beginners and for those who want to refresh skills. If you have not drawn before, you may like to try one of our 1 session tasters.
You will need an A4 sketchbook or pad of cartridge paper; a range of soft pencils, at least a 2B and 4B; a pencil sharpener; an eraser; a box of willow charcoal (medium or assorted widths); coloured pencils or crayons, white chalk, black or coloured inks and a soft brush (e.g. size 6). These can be ordered online from an art supplier such as Cass Arts.
