What you will learn

Explore the breadth of screen printing across fabric and paper, using pattern and figurative imagery. Learn how to develop and refine designs across a mix of paper stencils printing and basic digital editing for screen exposure. Create a set of tests and samples to showcase new ideas and techniques to build confidence and knowledge in this area of textiles.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Use drawing, collage and mark making to develop designs
Test screen print techniques to extend skills
Develop personal projects to make a series of samples and mini textile works
Review and identify research to support project development
Begin to understand the environmental impact of textiles practice

Class format and activities

Work in a friendly and supportive studio, with individual and group tuition. Handling samples, images and handouts will inspire creative development. A series of bite-sized tasks will enable quick learning and attractive sampler results.

Entry requirements

Suitable for beginners, improvers and refreshers. The course is tailor made to meet individual needs

What you need to know before you enrol

The course is delivered in the specialist textile studio which is situated on the second floor of the Nancy Seear Building with lift to the first and stairs and a stair lift to the second. Please contact Additional Learning Support (ALS) on 0207 4501 972 if you have any mobility support needs.

What you need

An apron, note book and pencil case containing drawing pencils, ruler, craft knife and scissors. Pre-loved plain cotton fabric is useful for tests.

What you can do next

This course forms a good basis for many other textile courses. Returners will get to extend their technical and creative knowledge for studio practise, and commercial application or for the sheer pleasure of making.
