What you will learn

This non accredited course can take you a step further and develop your confidence with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole and decimal numbers and use fractions, decimals and percentages effectively in your daily life. The course will also prepare you for the Functional Skills Maths Level 1 course.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Add, subtract, divide and multiply whole numbers with and without using a calculator
  • Compare and order decimal numbers up to 3 decimal places
  • Work out fraction and percentage parts of quantities
  • Calculate journey times using bus/rail timetables

Class format and activities

Interactive lesson with self-study. Microsoft Teams will be used as the main platform for assignments and additional learning; including discussion boards, group chats, private messaging and submitting coursework. Assessment methods: Achievement on your course will be measured by formative assessment against the learning outcomes.

Entry requirements

This course is suitable for learners who have completed Functional Maths Entry Level 3 (or have equivalent demonstrable experience). Learners will be asked to complete an initial assessment before enrolling onto the course.

What you need to know before you enrol

You are expected to attend every session. Minimum 95% attendance and punctuality are required from all students. This course requires some personal study time in addition to the completion of homework, please set aside an average of 3 - 4 hours per week for these activities.

What you need

You will need a calculator, writing materials, a notebook, geometry set and a computer/tablet for your homework (Mobile phone alone may not be suitable for completing maths assignments) with Internet access.

What you can do next

If you have excellent attendance and achieve the learning outcomes, you will be offered progression onto Functional Skills Maths Level 1 in January 2025.
