What you will learn

Learn the core skills needed to set-up and run a live PA system. Build a firm understanding of the basics of audio and signal paths, from microphone to loudspeaker including: inserts, sends & returns, FXs, monitor mixes, miking techniques, balanced & unbalanced systems, and much more. You will also get to set-up and run a PA at a live gig.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Gain basic understanding of microphones, speakers and amplification
  • Understand how a mixing desk works
  • Understand signal flow (Including an introduction to all parts of the signal flow within the desk)
  • Gain practical experience mixing live music

A strong interest in music and audio equipment

What you need to know before you enrol

Handling and lifting of audio equipment such as microphone stands, cables, speakers and mixer consoles are an essential part of this class. Advice on safe handling of equipment will be given at the beginning of the course. Due to the nature of the instruments/content of the course you might be exposed to high volume levels. We strongly encourage everyone to bring a pair of ear plugs to every lesson.
