What you will learn

A hands on, four day intensive and comprehensive course on casting and mould-making, specialising in silicone rubber. Ideal for students who have a small sculpture to cast, but also can use studio samples. Casting in choice of plaster, cement & wax. Open to all levels including beginners. Basic materials included but charged for when use over individual materials allowance -1kg of silicone rubber is included in the course costs and is charged @ £15 per kg after that.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the correct process to cast an object with
  • Prepare and seal objects and moulds before casting
  • Identify correct release agents
  • Make cavity rubber moulds- silicone and gelflex
  • Make solid rubber moulds- silicone and gelflex
  • Cast using plaster, wax, and cement

Class format and activities

As well as practical work developing your own moulds and casts, there will be demonstrations, group work and one to one instruction

Entry requirements

Some experience in sculpture is preferable.

What you need

Students can bring an object that they want cast (please contact tutor with an image and dimensions: robert.worley@morleycollege.ac.uk. Protective clothing i.e. recommended overall or apron, strong shoes or boots, Some extra fees will be charged for materials when the student uses over and above their allocated course materials fee. 1kg of silicone rubber is included in the course costs and is £15 per kg after that. Where applicable protective clothing supplied by the college must also be worn.
