What you will learn

A new evening Sculpture course for beginners and experienced students to explore materials and techniques for building sculpture, including clay, plaster, metal, wood and mixed materials. Students will be able to develop their own ideas, creativity and skills with introductions to a number of different sculpture media. An open workshop for all levels including beginners. Extra support will be offered to those with no previous experience. This course does not include carving introductions. Basic materials included. Materials charged for when use over the allocated materials fee.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Beginners: learn clay modelling, relief plaster casting and some metal construction techniques including spot welding and soldering.
  • All students: pursue own personal project work in chosen media, (from clay modelling to metal construction), learning and improving skills and developing confidence
  • Learn and practice good workshop practice including Health and Safety in relation to self and other studio users.
  • Make decisions between a variety of materials while designing a project.
  • Develop ideas and research your project work through sketchbooks/scrap books
  • Develop creative expression and aesthetic judgement in your own work through ongoing feedback from tutor and some group discussion.

Class format and activities

Group demonstrations, step by step tuition, peer learning and one to one tutorials, students practicing and working on individual projects and targets.

Entry requirements

No experience necessary. All levels welcome.

What you need to know before you enrol

Pelham Hall Sculpture studio is a 5 min walk from the Main College on Lambeth Walk.

What you need

Sturdy footwear and old clothing or overalls to wear in class. Personal protective equipment (PPE) for all process' will be provided in the studio.
