What you will learn

Join us to explore the art of creating sculptures with moving parts, including puppets, mobiles, and simple automata. This course covers various joining techniques such as spot welding and silver soldering, and delves into the principles of balance, hinges, and cranks. With guidance from our experienced tutor and technician team, you’ll be encouraged to design and craft your own unique sculptural and performing objects. All skill levels are welcome, including beginners.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Learn to use metal and mixed media to make sculptures with moving parts, including mobiles, puppets and simple automata.
  • Learn different joining methods including spot welding and silver soldering.
  • Learn to make and use hinges and cranks exploring balance
  • Learn and practice workshop Health and safety for all mediums and process'

Class format and activities

Group demonstrations, step by step tuition, peer learning and one to one tutorials, students practicing and working on individual projects and targets.

Entry requirements

No experience necessary. All levels welcome.

What you need to know before you enrol

Pelham Hall Sculpture studio is a 5 min walk from the Main College on Lambeth Walk.

What you need

Sturdy footwear and old clothing or overalls to wear in class. Personal protective equipment (PPE) for all process' will be provided in the studio.
