What you will learn

Explore the potential of pulp and handmade paper and nurture individual responses to this versatile medium during this two day introduction to papermaking. You will use professional equipment to create paper using cotton rag pulp and recycled paper with step-by-step guidance on the production of embossed, laminated, decorative and textured papers. There will be an emphasis on sharing knowledge and experience through discussion, show and tell and group critique at the end of the session. You will learn to make paper in creative ways for multiple applications with expert tuition and guidance.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Prepare and process fibres for papermaking using cotton rags and recycled rag paper
  • Use a mould and deckle to produce a range of embossed, laminated, decorative and textured papers
  • Experiment with coloured pulp and customised moulds
