What you will learn

Weaving meets sculpture! Create sculptural forms with a mixture of off loom techniques, using raffia and wire incorporate other materials of your choice, add sections, weave sections, twist and manipulate to make any variety of 3d forms.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Use various weaving techniques: whipping, wrapping and basic weaving
  • Create 3d shapes using raffia and wire
  • Learn how to incorporate 3d shapes into other woven forms

Class format and activities

Watch a short presentation of sculptural 3d pieces for inspiration, we will then create a small figure from raffia and wire. Use the techniques to make a 3d form of your choice

Entry requirements

Open to everyone over the age of 19. All abilities welcome

What you need to know before you enrol

The Textile Studio is on the second floor of the building and we will also be using the college dye garden, a reasonable level of fitness is required. The class is situated on the second floor of the Nancy Sear Building. There is partial disabled access via a lift to the first floor and a stair lift to the second. Please contact ALS on: 0207 450 1972 or Art & Design Admin on: 0207 450 1934 before enrolling if you have any mobility support needs.

What you need

All materials will be supplied but if you would like to bring other materials of your choice: i.e plastic, paper twine, raffia, wool, cotton or acrylic please do
