This course will teach movement foundations and core principles such as weight and how to use it to propel, initiate and modify movement; using levels and different dynamics; recognising and applying different movement qualities; initiating movement from different body parts; using the core to support your movement. Drawing from various contemporary dance vocabularies as well as other dance forms such as street dance styles, you will gain body awareness and confidence to move more effectively, safely and creatively
Creative tasks facilitated and guided by the tutor; set tasks with tutor demonstration; working individually, in pairs and as a group. Class 1- Intro - overview of various principles that we’ll expand on following sessions Class 2- Weight: organic movement and floor work Class 3.a - Isolations: awareness, clarity and choice 3.b - What initiates and what leads movement: clarity and intention Class 4- Different movement qualities: sharp, soft, flow, groovy Class 5- Recap of previous sessions and taking it a step further: Guided Exploration & Play Class 6- Application in a short phrase and improvisation task (performance quality vs exploration quality)
The course is open to all and adaptations will be made to different abilities, however please note, as this is a physical class a good level of fitness to endure low to intense exercise is required

Comfortable clothes you can move in. We may do ‘floorwork’ on some of the classes, so better to have long sleeve & trousers option. Socks & trainers
