What you will learn

A small orchestra of high standard, playing music from the 18th century to the present day. Students can join in any term. There will be two concerts this term at the end of October and beginning of December.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • The work of the orchestra is ongoing and you will play a varied selection of the chamber orchestra literature from late baroque until the present day

Class format and activities

You will learn from the conductor through participation in rehearsals and preparation for performances, and from your colleagues in the orchestra. The repertoire the Orchestra will work on this term is: Glazunov Reverie Orientale op. 14 no. 2 Moeran Sinfonietta Haydn Symphony no. 103 'Drum roll' Moeran Whythorne's Shadow Shostakovich Cello Concerto no. 1 Haydn Symphony no.101 'Clock'

Entry requirements

There is an audition process, but entry is also by recommendation or application to the conductor. A level of ABRSM Grade 7/8 or comparable standard is needed and ideally some depth of previous orchestral experience. It is possible under some circumstances to join the orchestra after the start of each term.
