What you will learn

This Masterclass – Colour Viscosity Printing for Etching at Morley College London Chelsea Centre takes place in our light and well-equipped studio with specialist facilities. You will learn to develop ideas and imagery into multicoloured prints using viscosity techniques. The varied colour combinations and blends are enormous and provide exciting expressive possibilities not achievable with any other intaglio technique.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • You will learn to make images etched into metal that allow you to print with multiple colours on a single plate.
  • You will discover how to roll different viscosities of ink across the surfaces of the plate to create unexpected colour blends and effects using intaglio and relief methods.
  • It was a technique pioneered by British printmaker Stanley William Hayter in the 1960’s.

Cost

  • Full fee
    £200
  • Concession fee
    £150
  • Class format and activities

You will work on two small images simultaneously learning to deep etch an image into zinc plates to achieve different levels in the surface. You will then learn to mix different viscosities of coloured inks, how to apply them to your image and print on to paper.
