What you will learn

This introductory course is for anyone who wants to find out more about Biology for fun or for future study. Learn about living organisms, the variety of microorganisms, plant and animal life and life processes in a series of fun and engaging online sessions.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Classify living things (plants, animals, microorganisms)
  • Describe the characteristics of living organisms
  • Understand nutrition in plants and animals
  • Understand the organisation of multicellular organisms from cells (through tissues, organs and systems) to organisms
  • Understand the rules of inheritance
  • Explore the relationships between plants and animals in an ecosystem

Class format and activities

This fun and engaging 5 week course will introduce you to the basic concepts of biology. The course will be offered in centre. You will learn through demonstrations, problem solving activities, group work, videos and discussion. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to an advanced- level courseIn order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
