There are other versions of this course available. We’ve listed them below and summarized the differences between the one that you are currently viewing.
Develop a range of beading skills, including a range of off-loom beading techniques on this evening jewellery workshop. Suitable for beginners or students with experience who are looking to extend their skills with the help of an experienced tutor.
The whole idea of this course is to learn new techniques to add to your arsenal of skills or to start learning beading techniques. This is a practical class, so each week we will go through new stitches, including Netting, Right Angle Weave, Peyote, Square Stitch and Spiral Stitch. We will create a beaded practice piece using the materials provided and the skills demonstrated during the sessions and a finished beaded necklace using the different beading techniques. By the end of the course you will have a set of samples and a finished necklace using the skills you have learned over the six weeks. During the course there will be ongoing discussions and examples on bead weaving techniques, the appropriate threads & findings to use. There will be an emphasis on sharing knowledge and experience, through discussion, show and tell and group crits.
No previous experience of jewellery making is necessary. Enthusiasm is an asset!
This is a practical course and will require hand skills for working with threads and knotting techniques. Glasses or optical loupes may be needed for intricate work.
You will be provided with the basic materials and equipment for each session, but as your skills progress it may be worth bringing any beads you have to incorporate into designs created during the course. If you wish to progress with the techniques you are learning on the course a comprehensive list of suggested tools and materials will be provided during the first session, along with suppliers. Hand-outs for each new technique covered will be available, but a notebook & pen is strongly recommended.
