This course is a continuation of your language learning (ESOL) from entry 3 (Intermediate) and is one level above that needed for citizenship. It offers 6 hours weekly for 12 weeks on two days a week, mornings or evenings. In the 3 terms from September to July you will attend a whole year’s programme of study. You can enter this course at the start of any term -September, January or April. Each term involves all the areas of language and skills but will have an exam focus – term 1 is listening and speaking, term 2 is reading and term 3 is writing. In the community of the online classroom you will meet other students from many different backgrounds and in the process learn many new things about them and their cultures, as well as English-speaking cultures. The constant attention and exposure to English in the classroom will build your confidence in being able to deal with (listen to and read) written and spoken English and your ability to produce written and spoken English. This, in turn, will help you deal with the challenge of looking for work, as well as improving your employment situation which is often dependent on fluency in English. The tutors are very experienced in this field of teaching and can anticipate difficulties and explain those aspects of language which cause students communication problems.
Upper Intermediate, Entry 3 or assessment at interview (B2) is required.
You need to be able to attend regularly, be punctual and be prepared to take the exam towards the end of the course. You will need access to digital technology, ideally a laptop computer with fully functioning microphone.
