This course prepares you for the AQA English Language GCSE examinations. An English Language GCSE is an essential qualification for anyone wanting to practise reading skills and use these to develop creative and persuasive writing. You will engage with fiction and non-fiction texts and develop your critical thinking across a range of topics. It is one of the key qualifications required by employers and universities and will improve your job and education prospects. On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: GCSE (9-1) in English Language [AQA]
This is an online plus course. You will need: Internet connection and a computer with microphone and camera, or a tablet/smart phone. The class will be interactive and creative. In the class you will work individually, in pairs, or small groups. You will be expected to complete regular homework. We will use online learning platforms such as Google Classroom and Moodle to ensure you make the best possible progress on your course. You will also receive regular supportive feedback from your teacher. Achievement on your course will be measured by final examinations and a speaking and listening assessment. Your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course, including mock examinations. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets linked to the learning outcomes and future goals.
This is an accredited Level 2 GCSE course. You should have native or near-native English language skills and you should already be reading English fiction and non-fiction. You will need to do an initial pre-course assessment before being accepted onto this course. Those who do not yet have the required skills will be referred to Functional Skills courses.
Excellent attendance and punctuality are required from all students. You will also need to make time to complete work outside the classroom.
You will need a pen, paper and folder for assignments and any other appropriate stationery. You will be expected to maintain a course folder of handouts and your assignments.
