What you will learn

A one-day Sculpture Taster course introducing Abstraction from the Figure in clay modelling. Work from your own ceramic life or portrait sculpture pieces or examples in the studio. Explore your own clay abstract work extending your skills with different clay modelled making and textural techniques. Learn about different figure into abstract sculpture styles from the 20th century and sculptors using the figure in their work. Learn clay preparation techniques for firing. Suitable for all levels, including beginners

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

- be able to identify one or more different figure into abstract sculpture styles from the 20th century
- extend your skills with different clay modelled making and textural techniques inspired from the figurative form
- be aware of different sculptor artists using the figure in their work
- learn and practice clay and studio Health and Safety

Class format and activities

You will be guided by your tutor to develop your own individual clay modelled abstracted from the figure work as well as be introduced to examples of 20th century abstract sculptors and styles. There will be, Demonstrations, 1:1 and Group guidance. You will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

None - Enthusiasm for the subject and a willingness to experiment in order to progress.

This course takes place in Pelham Hall Sculpture Studio - a 5 minute walk offsite from the Main College - check the map on website.

What you need

You should wear work clothes or apron in this class & hard shoes or boots - No sandals or high heels.

What you can do next

You can join term time classes of the same subject on Tuesday Evenings 6-9 and Wednesday day (morning and or afternoon). You can try different sculpture courses, pre Foundation and Art Foundation courses at Morley.
