What you will learn

Design thinking has just celebrated it 25th birthday, but it is something which you rarely see being applied to fashion design. This course has been specifically addressed this gap in fashion design and for fashion designers to benefit from the deeper connection human centred design practices afford their products. You will embark on an extended Google Design Sprint and find out how to create products which do not merely meet the superficial needs of your customers but match with them on a much deeper level. This will include working out value propositions and creating meaningful personas, utilising empathy and discovering the true problems your customers are struggling to solve to fulfil their fashion destiny. In the end you will learn how to step beyond your assumptions, leverage the collective knowledge and wisdom of your fellow students as well as your own and create design sample concepts for a collection to address the hidden true needs of your customers.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand and apply Design Thinking specific terminology within a fashion context
  • Understand and apply Design Thinking methodology to Fashion Design
  • Use the Google Sprint methodology in relation to Fashion Design
  • Create designs through empathy which balance the needs of your end consumer with viability, feasibility and desirability
