Learn how to weave traditional and more experimental tapestry. Beginners will learn to weave with a small sampler and then progress to creating tapestries of their own design. You will learn both traditional and more experimental techniques and will have the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of materials.
Learn how to weave by creating your own small sampler, progress to weaving a tapestry of your own design and be inspired by discovering the work of traditional and contemporary weaving. Handouts on techniques or particular forms of weaving are supplied.
No previous experience of tapestry is necessary but an interest in drawing or design is helpful.
This course takes place in the textile studio, sitting on stools. The class is situated on the second floor of the Nancy Seear Building. There is partial disabled access via a stair lift. Please contact ALS on: 0207 450 1972 or Art & Design Admin on: 0207 450 1934 before enrolling if you have any mobility support needs.
It is useful to have a sketchbook or notebook, and an A4 file for information sheets. The course fee includes most materials (warp and weft) but you may want to buy your own bobbins and experiment with your own yarns. Further requirements will be discussed in class.
