What you will learn

This in-depth, high-level qualification shows you have the language skills that UK employers and some universities are looking for. This Reading course is for you if you have passed your Level 1 exams or understand and use English at an upper-intermediate level and have very good study skills. In this course, you will develop your English and build confidence as a proficient user of the language. To achieve the full ESOL Level 2 qualification, you must pass Speaking and Listening Level 2, Reading Level 2 and Writing Level 2.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Identify the main points and events of a long written text
Use language features to identify meaning in text
Identify the purpose of a text
Evaluate information from different sources

On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: Award in ESOL Skills for Life (Reading) [CG]

Class format and activities

You will work in pairs or small groups or individually. You will also have one-to-one discussions with your tutor to talk about your progress. You will experience a wide and varied range of activities such as listening to audio, role-play, reading aloud, writing activities, quizzes, word searches and other games. You will also use digital learning technologies to help you learn. You will have an individual learning plan with targets that are personal to you.

Entry requirements

You will take an initial assessment which will determine your current level of English. You may join this course if your assessed level is just below the standards at Level 2.

What you need to know before you enrol

Attend or contact North Kensington Centre to make an appointment for Advice and Guidance to confirm this course is right for you. Course Fees: Variable rates are available. You may be able to do the course for FREE depending on your personal circumstances. Independent study: A minimum of 4 hours per week, including regular practice of what you learn in class and completing any homework. Attendance and Punctuality: Making good progress on the course will depend on regular attendance and punctuality. A minimum of 90% attendance is required from students at Morley College London.

You will need writing materials (a pen, a notebook) and a folder to store materials.
