What you will learn

This course is for you:if you want to learn about life in the UKif you want to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening in English to help you in your everyday life and workIn this course, you will develop speaking and listening, reading and writing skills. Each term includes all four skills but focuses on a specific skill for the exam taken in that term. When you pass each skill you will receive a certificate for that particular skill.To achieve the full ESOL Entry Level 1 qualification, you must pass Speaking and Listening Entry Level 1, Reading Entry Level 1 and Writing Entry Level 1.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Obtain necessary information from simple verbal communication for a given task
  • Use pronunciation to convey intended meaning
  • Express simple views clearly during verbal communication
  • Make effective verbal requests to obtain information

On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: Award in ESOL Skills for Life (Speaking and Listening) (Entry 1) [CG]

Class format and activities

These are in-centre classroom based lessons. Some lessons may be delivered online. Any online classes will take place either on MsTeams or Google Meet. You will work in pairs, small groups or individually. You will also have a one-to-one discussion with your tutor to talk about your progress. You will experience a wide and varied range of activities such as listening to audios, role play, reading aloud, writing activities, quizzes, word searches and other games. You will also use YouTube, an interactive whiteboard and computers to help you learn. Everything that you learn will help you in your daily life and work. You will have an individual learning plan with targets that are personal to you. Assessment methods: At the end of each term, you may take City & Guilds exams for the skill you are studying. If you pass your exams, you will receive a certificate from City and Guilds.

Entry requirements

You will take an initial assessment which will determine your current level of English.

a pen, some lined paper and a file to keep your work in an Internet connection to access online lessons a computer with microphone and camera, a tablet or smart phone headphones
