This Essential Digital Skills Qualification (EDSQ) is here to help you gain practical digital skills based on the Government's national standards. If you're 19 or older, you may be eligible for full funding depending on your income, making this course accessible to you. Whether you want to boost your digital confidence for personal use, employment, or further study, this course will give you the essential skills you need.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Use digital devices effectively, manage files and cloud storage.
  • Understand online safety and cybersecurity.
  • Communicate through Microsoft Outlook and Teams and manage your calendar.
  • Use Microsoft Word for word processing, formatting, and creating professional documents.
  • Gain basic Microsoft Excel skills, such as data entry, formatting, and using simple formulas.

On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: Essential Digital Skills [EDEXCEL]

Class format and activities

You will attend classes in person at the Waterloo site, where you'll take part in whole-group teaching, group activities, practical exercises, demonstrations, and one-on-one support. Your progress will be assessed through ongoing tutor evaluations and self-assessments. You'll learn using Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Teams, and other web-based resources like YouTube videos and online quizzes. To get the most out of this course, you need access to a computer with an internet connection for homework and practice. At the end of the course, you'll take the Essential Digital Skills Qualification (EDSQ) Exam at Level 1.

Entry requirements

You are expected to have confidence in basic word processing and formatting, as well as a fundamental understanding of internet searching and email, and be able to do these tasks independently. You should have at least Entry Level 3 (E3) in literacy/ESOL and be working towards Level 1. .

What you need

You must maintain at least 95% attendance and be on time for every lesson. In addition to attending classes, you'll need to set aside some personal study time and complete homework assignments. To fully participate, you must have access to a computer with an internet connection.
