What you will learn

Study both the still life and figure analysis through direct observation. The emphasis is on the discovery of form, composition, colour and tone using a range of drawing and painting techniques, both traditional and experimental. This course is suitable for acrylics, oils and mixed media painting and drawing.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Develop observational skills using a range of painting and drawing techniques
Paint and draw from the model using a range of observation techniques
Explore the expressive properties of colour using a range of media
Identify differences of scale of still life objects and experiment with composition and form
Study specific artists techniques

Class format and activities

You will explore a variety of dynamic and set figure poses, studying figure analysis and proportion. Painting a series of still life subjects that include the organic and inorganic and study different observation techniques. There will be an emphasis to convey colour, light and tone and to explore mark-making You will be encouraged to discuss work collectively There will be 1:1 tuition and demonstrations will be given.

The course is suitable for those with art experience and also welcomes enthusiastic beginners.

The studio C33 is on the 3rd floor of the main building which has lift access.

Charcoal, soft pencils, erasers, Sketchbook A5 or A4.

This course is an excellent investigation to study from observation which will enable you to develop your work , if possible into the next term. There are also other wide ranging art courses available at Morley College.
