What you will learn

If you enjoy reading and want to learn more about novels and novelists in a friendly, informal group, this course is for you! You will be introduced to a range of genres and works by authors. The focus is on discussion and sharing thoughts and ideas.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand how the novel has developed over time
  • Identify different genres such as crime, science fiction, romance, magical realism
  • Discuss your opinions with other students
  • Write a review or give a short talk about a favourite novel or author

Class format and activities

The focus is on discussion. You will be sent a reading list before the course starts but each week will focus on an extract from one work. Students will be invited to write a review or give a talk on a novel of their choice.

Entry requirements

There are no set entry requirements apart from an interest in literature and a willingness to share ideas.
