You will start by making your own cordage from plant leaves. You can then use this or other fibres to make baskets using coiling, looping, or random weave. You will be encouraged to experiment with a wide range of fibres, both natural and manmade, to produce different results and textures.
The tutor will demonstrate techniques and bring inspirational samples, You will be given time to practise these techniques with constructive feedback to develop your own projects. Group discussions and one to one support will enable you to progress
No previous experience is necessary, but a degree of manual dexterity is required.
The class is situated on the second floor of the Nancy Seear Building. There is partial disabled access via a stair lift. Please contact ALS on: 0207 450 1972 or Art & Design Admin on: 0207 450 1934 before enrolling if you have any mobility support needs.
Pen and notebook to make notes, folder for handouts. Basic materials will be provided, but you may want to explore others when working on your own projects. A large bag to take home work in progress.
