What you will learn

On this fun course you will use basketry techniques and materials to make a range of Christmas decorations, such as willow stars and plaited reindeer. You will work with a range of materials, from yarn and paper to willow and recycled plastic strapping.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Know how to use a variety of basketry techniques
  • Understand how to select and prepare different materials
  • Produce a collection of Christmas decorations

Class format and activities

The tutor will bring in and discuss relevant samples and demonstrate techniques. You will practise the techniques with observation and feedback from the tutor. You will also share your knowledge and experience with the group through discussion and show and tell.

Entry requirements

No previous experience is necessary, but a degree of manual dexterity is required.

What you need to know before you enrol

The class is situated on the second floor of the Nancy Seear Building. There is partial disabled access via a stair lift. Please contact ALS on: 0207 450 1972 or Art & Design Admin on: 0207 450 1934 before enrolling if you have any mobility support needs

What you need

Pen and notebook to make notes, folder for handouts. Basic materials will be provided, but you may want to explore others when working on your own projects.
