What you will learn

Do you want to learn how to use a computer but need to improve your English and Maths as well? This course will teach you basic computer skills whilst you practise and learn English and Maths. You will need to be Entry 1 or Entry 2 English or ESOL.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify different parts of a PC
  • Setup an Internet email account
  • Perform basic Internet searches
  • Create and save basic documents using MS Word

Class format and activities

Classes will be delivered at the Waterloo site. Achievement on your course will be measured by formative and self - assessment against the learning outcomes. Your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e. progression to another course.

Entry requirements

You will need to be working at Entry 2 in English or ESOL.

What you need to know before you enrol

This course runs once a week (two hours per lesson), students are expected to attend every lesson.• A minimum of 95% attendance and punctuality are required from all students.• This course requires personal study time in addition to the completion of homework (at least 3 hours per week recommended). It is important that students have access to a computer outside of class in order to complete these activities.
