What you will learn

Are you looking to kick-start your bass guitar playing? Learn bass guitar in a small group setting at a fraction of the price of one-to-one tuition. If you are an absolute beginner, or if you have learned a bass lines already, then this is the course for you. Establish new skills and develop bass playing technique, reading and improvising from chord symbols, understanding of rhythm and tempo, and how to perform with other musicians in contemporary styles. The Bass Guitar Intermediate class is a good, fun, dynamic group learning experience for all ages.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • play a variety of scales and arpeggios
  • understand basic chord symbols in a chord sequence
  • perform exercises in tempo
  • establish bass guitar accompaniment to a chord sequence in a variety of contemporary styles
  • have a better understanding and knowledge of the role of a bass player

Class format and activities

Talks, listening assignments, demonstrations, note taking, practical workshops, group work, in-class group performances.

Entry requirements

You will have a strong interest in bass guitar playing and a desire to improve.

What you need to know before you enrol

Homework will be given every week and students must be prepared to spend time doing the given assignments and preparing tunes for performance in class.

You will need to bring your guitar to lessons. Amps will be provided if/when needed. Manuscript paper, notebook, writing materials and earplugs.
