What you will learn

This course is about understanding how computer works. You will look at what is inside the computer, how it works, how to troubleshoot common problems and upgrade simple features.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Computer terminology
  • The parts of the computer and their function
  • Health and safety when working with computers
  • Installing and configuring an operating system and drivers
  • Have a better understanding of hardware and software terminology.

Class format and activities

Students will work mainly in groups. Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard, and printed notes. Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you understanding the concepts.

Entry requirements

This course is for complete beginners - no previous experience or knowledge is necessary. You should be able to follow spoken and written instructions. You will also be expected to take part in the practical elements of this course.

What you need to know before you enrol

You must make sure you can commit for the whole duration of the courses. Regular attendance is important.

What you need

You need to be digital skills enthusiast. Also have a USB/Memory stick and a folder. Pens and paper will be required. You will need an access to a computer at home and do some independent work.
