There are other versions of this course available. We’ve listed them below and summarized the differences between the one that you are currently viewing.
This course is a creative exploration of bookbinding techniques focusing on book structure and artistic expression through books. We will explore creative approaches to blizzard books and Coptic binding, covering skills in stitching, hard covers, folding, windows and using both sides of each book page. We will use linocut and mono-printing techniques to create end papers, book covers and create visual journeys through books. This course is suitable for beginners and students with some previous bookbinding or printmaking experience.
There will be demonstration, group discussion, one to one tuition and practical project work. To ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
No previous knowledge of bookbinding or printmaking is required. This class is a great introduction to making books and creative printed book content.
Health and Safety information will be given at the start of the course and in subsequent lessons wherever necessary. You will be required to follow good studio etiquette, clean all equipment and help make sure the studio is left tidy at the end of the class.
Pencil, eraser and notebook for taking notes. Your own sketch books and drawings to work from. We will discuss in the first session if there are any other tools and materials you may want to buy or bring in.
