What you will learn

Develop an understanding of the mind and behaviour through increasing your understanding of psychology. Designed for those curious about why humans behave in the way they do. This short course offers a comprehensive overview into different psychological approaches and the practical applications that have developed in various settings including Health and Social Care, Clinical, Educational and law. Embark on a journey to understand the complexities of psychology, such as how it developed as a discipline and how our knowledge of science has increased our understanding of the role that biological mechanisms play in human behaviour. The course will enrich your understanding of the complexities of human behaviour through role plays, case studies, research and discussions.

  • Class format and activities

    The class is held in person at our North Kensington centre and emphasis is on learning through interactions . There will be discussions in pairs, small groups and the large group. There will also be tutor input and handouts provided. You'll be asked to keep a reflective learning journal as a way of reflecting your learning throughout the course. Towards the end of the course, you will complete written work that is relevant to your learning and suited to your level of study.

    Entry requirements

    This is a beginners course and equivalent to a level 1. No previous qualification or experience required. Participants are asked to come willing to draw on their own experiences and be open to the diverse views, perspectives and experience of other students. You will need to be a fluent speaker of English, be able to listen and respond to others and take part in discussions. To be considered for the next level you have to be willing to complete a comprehensive piece of coursework and read recommended texts.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    This is a course for beginners. A good command of written and spoken English will benefit you in order to take part in class discussions and complete written tasks.

    What you need

    Laptop/tablet/iPad with a fast and reliable internet connection. You will need to download MS Teams in order to join your class and access learning materials. There are no other costs, but you will require a notepad and pen if you wish to take notes
