What you will learn

This course is designed for students who are interested in starting a GCSE Maths programme in September 2025. Students will undergo assessment at the end of the course, and their overall performance will be reviewed to determine their readiness for progression to a GCSE Maths course, or a more suitable alternative.

Class format and activities

The course aims to provide students with a deep understanding of key mathematical concepts, problem-solving techniques, and critical thinking skills. Additionally, it focuses on improving students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities in English, enabling them to analyze and respond effectively to various types of maths word problems. Entry requirements

Initial Assessments and interview to evaluate current maths knowledge and skills, including capability to study. Usually, there are no specific prior qualifications required to join this course. However, students are generally expected to have achieved Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English, or their Key Stage 3 education, which covers a broad range of subjects at the middle school level.

What you need to know before you enrol

Before enrolling in GCSE Maths, it's important to consider the following steps and factors: Evaluate Personal Interest and Motivation: Reflect on your interest in mathematics and your goals. Attendance Requirement: Minimum 90% attendance and punctuality required. Personal Study Time: Set aside at least 10 hours per week for study and homework.

What you need

You will need a Casio FX-83GT CW scientific calculator, (or one of the previous versions e.g., FX-83GTX or FX-85GTX), You will also need writing materials, a notebook, a geometry set, and a computer/tablet with Internet access for your homework. A mobile phone alone may not be suitable for completing maths assignments.
