What you will learn

Suitable for absolute beginners, this course teaches you the basic theory and practical techniques to play open chords and simple melodies.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Feel comfortable sitting and playing your guitar and successfully naming the parts
  • Understand how to read guitar tab
  • Understand musical notation values and develop rhythm reading
  • Play the G major scale
  • Play melodies using the G major scale
  • Play a guitar riff
  • Understand how to read ‘Fretboxes’ and apply the chords G, D, C  major and E minor to a well known song
  • Apply simple strumming patterns using up and down strokes
  • Play with confidence in a group, on your own and to backing tracks

This course is suitable for absolute beginners.

What you need to know before you enrol

You will need to be willing and able to do short, regular practice sessions between classes: at least 10–15 minutes, at least 4 times a week.
