What you will learn

In a fun, friendly group, continue learning piano or chromatic button accordion, including bellows technique, chord button layout, keyboard skills and music reading through music in a range of styles and genres.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Hold the accordion correctly in order to facilitate good technique.
  • Play simple musical exercises and scales on the right hand.
  • Play simple bass and chord exercises on the left hand in a variety of accompaniment styles.
  • Have a deeper understanding of basic music theory, including pitch and rhythm notation and chord symbols.
  • Combine right and left hand to play simple tunes, showing some awareness of good bellows control.

Class format and activities

You will learn by demonstrations, explanations and through playing your own accordion both individually, in pairs and in groups.

Entry requirements

Suitable for those with at least 1 year's experience.

To achieve the most from the course, you must be willing to practise between sessions.

You will need your own accordion – ideally with a minimum of 48 bass.
