What you will learn

Over the 5 weeks of this course, you will learn about sourcing and developing ideas for further textile projects. You will achieve this by generating your own source material through exploring a selection of media and techniques. The exercises and projects delivered will be relevant for development and application in all areas of textiles practice - print, weave, knit, stitch, tapestry and mixed media. By experimenting on both paper and fabric, you will explore line, texture and pattern as well as subject. You will learn about techniques including, mark making and drawing with inks, wax and graphite, frottage, monoprint, light projections onto 2D and 3D surfaces, and printing with small blocks and stamps.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Continue developing your own visual language
  • Demonstrate a greater confidence in sourcing and developing ideas
  • Know how to experiment with materials and techniques, to help you develop ideas through different processes
  • Share ideas, techniques and skills in a stimulating studio environment

Class format and activities

Teaching will be by demonstrations, specific exercises and mini projects. There will be group discussions, sharing of ideas and constructive individual feedback in an informal and supportive environment

What you need to know before you enrol

The class is situated on the second floor of the Nancy Spear Building. There is a partial disabled access via a stair lift. Please contact ALS on: 020 74501927 or Art and Design admin on 020 4501934 before enrolling if you have any mobility support needs
