This course is an opportunity to explore sustainable practices, focusing on recycling, reusing and repurposing textiles and found objects and materials to create ethical and eco-friendly fashion and textiles projects. Students will learn to transform materials and reduce waste while fostering creativity. From repurposing techniques to understanding eco-friendly fabric choices, the course emphasises responsible fashion creative. Practical workshops and discussions delve into the importance of sustainability in the industry, empowering individuals to design with a mindful approaches and ethical fashion practices.
The course is designed to foster a dynamic learning environment that caters to students of varying skill levels and backgrounds. It is oriented towards a process-based approach while nurturing personal creative development. Students are encouraged to embark on their creative journey through personal research. To ensure continual progress, students receive regular and detailed feedback and guidance tailored to each student’s needs. The classes incorporate various teaching methods, including tutor’s demonstrations and presentations, practical learning activities, and group discussions. Good attendance and punctuality are key to achieve in this practical course.
Some previous experience in weaving, sewing and hand stitching is helpful when joining this course.
Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. Students are generally expected to spend some time outside of class for completion of activities.Please note the eating and drinking is not allowed in the fashion studios - you are allowed to have bottled water. Students must be able to read, write and understand English.
You will need the following equipment: paper and fabric scissors, sewing threads, sewing needles, tailor pins, masking tape, eraser, A4 ring binder or envelope file to store handouts, A3 sketchbook (optional), fabric scraps.
