What you will learn

Consolidate your basic knowledge of the language. Learn to communicate in a wider variety of everyday situations (e.g. talking about daily routine and leisure activities, expressing opinions, talking about past actions) This course is suitable for those wishing to build on their knowledge of the basics of the language. (Level A1)

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Communicate in everyday situations (e.g. ask and reply to questions about free time, talk about everyday actions and express agreement and disagreement)
  • Use basic verbal forms to talk about events in the past and present
  • Skim-read short texts on a variety of everyday topics (e.g. personal introduction, work schedules, timetables and numbers) to understand the gist
  • Write short sentences on a variety of everyday topics e.g. personal introduction, past and present hobbies

Class format and activities

Practising speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, Learning through practical activities (individual tasks, role-plays, pair and small group work, games), Writing basic single words and short sentences, e.g. gap-filling, grammar exercises, Following and giving simple presentations, Listening for the gist or basic information, Revising on topics (e.g. vocabulary) and grammar points. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

We recommend that you complete Spanish Stage 1 Terms 1 and 2 or equivalent (approx. 45 hours of study) before enrolling for this course. You can alternatively contact the Languages department on 020 7450 1889 or at languages@morleycollege.ac.uk for guidance. Good attendance and punctuality are required from all students. This course requires study/completion of activities outside of class time , from 1 hour to 2.
