What you will learn

The aim of this course is to develop, consolidate and students’ command of the language in a relaxed and supportive learning environment. Students will discuss topics and issues related to contemporary current affairs and culture of French-speaking countries. The course will focus on improving speaking and research skills. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss learning outcomes with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to a higher stage.

Understand a wide variety of complex reading and audiovisual documents and recognize implicit meaning
Increase confidence by developing analytical, collaborative and independent learning skills
Communicate actively and effectively, both orally and in writing

Class format and activities

The course will be delivered face-to-face. To access additional resources and homework you will need to use the College’s virtual learning environment, Moodle. The course will be learner-centered and conducted in French, through a variety of communicative activities: debate, class discussion, and presentation. By means of reading and listening authentic and specific material for gist and detail, you’ll learn how to summarise information and reconstruct arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

A very good command of the language equivalent to A-level or similar in all four skills. An active and interest in current affairs and cultural topics related to social, political and cultural issues. Enthusiasm for the subject and commitment are also valuable assets as the course requires a fair amount of research and written homework.

What you need to know before you enrol

Excellent attendance and punctuality from all students. This course requires some additional study outside of class time.

What you need

A pen and a notebook. A copy of the selected book at the start of the course (TBA). Additionally, you will need a laptop with Internet connection to access online resources for your course.
