What you will learn

Improve your accordion technique and musicianship through playing solo and ensemble music, ranging from classics and standards, to folk, musette and tango.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Create LH accompaniment patterns in a range of styles, including the use of counterbasses.
  • Use musical exercises to improve right and left hand technique
  • Understand how to operate the bellows to play with a good range of dynamics.
  • Perform solo pieces with confidence, showing an awareness of good bellows control and musicality.
  • Perform with others in duos, trios and larger ensembles, maintaining own part with confidence.

Class format and activities

You will learn by example from the tutor, through practical playing both individually, in a group and from peer support.

Entry requirements

Suitable for players with at least 2 years’ experience.

In order to achieve the most from the course, you must be willing to practise between sessions.

You will need your own accordion – ideally with a minimum of 72 bass.
