What you will learn

Develop your drawing ability through practical exercises using a wide range of subjects including the life model, objects, and landscape. For people with some experience of drawing, this course will help you find ways to draw that suit you, by examining a variety of approaches and artists’ work to instruct and inspire.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of proportion and perspective
  • Draw using a wide range of drawing materials
  • Make quick sketches with confidence
  • Create an interesting composition

Class format and activities

Your tutor will introduce each session and its main topic, and provide objects, images, or a life model from which to draw. You will be shown images of relevant artists’ work and demonstrations by your tutor. You will receive individual feedback and have opportunities to show and discuss student work in class.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but students should have some experience of drawing, e.g. have already taken a beginners’ class.

What you need to know before you enrol

This course is taught at Morley College Waterloo Centre in studio WC33 which is accessible by lift and stairs.

What you need

You will need your own materials. These should include: cartridge paper (e.g. a sketchbook), soft pencils, eraser, sharpener, willow charcoal, soft pastel, ink (either a pen, such as a Tombow brush pen, or a bottle of Indian ink).
