What you will learn

Discover the best methods and techniques to maximise the potential of weaving on a portable mini loom. Explore various warping methods: layering, twisting, different weights. Practice techniques, colour and yarn combinations and understand the versatility of nail and slot frames. A portable mini loom is included in the cost of the course and is yours to take home with you when you leave.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Discover a variety of warping techniques
  • Learn how to start, finish, change colours and remove your tapestry from the frame.
  • Explore the potential of a mini portable loom
  • Understand the work of a number of artists who use a nail frame.

Class format and activities

Watch a short presentation showing the potential of using a nail frame and discover the work of a variety of textile artists

Entry requirements

No previous experience is necessary but some knowledge of weaving is advantageous

What you need to know before you enrol

This course is situated on the second floor of the Nancy Seear building, there is a lift to the first floor and a stair lift to the second. For any accessibility issues please let us know beforehand.

What you need

A file for handouts, a notebook, a variety of yarn (all yarn will be provided but feel free to bring something you wish to experiment with)
