Build on your first term of learning the language. Learn to communicate in everyday situations (e.g. shopping, describing places, telling the time and expressing likes and dislikes) and develop the skills to get your message across. This course is suitable for those wishing to consolidate their knowledge of the basics of the language. (Level A1)
Practising speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, learning through practical collaborative and independent learning activities (individual tasks, role-plays, pair and small group work and games), writing basic single words and short sentences, e.g. complete gap-fills and grammar exercises, following and giving simple presentations, listening for the gist or basic information, revising topics (e.g. vocabulary) and grammar points, achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals.
We recommend that you complete Spanish Stage 1 Unit 1 or equivalent (minimum 18 hours of previous study) before enrolling on this course. If you are unsure of your level, you can contact the Languages Department: languages@morleycollege.ac.uk and we will be happy to advise you on the most suitable course. Good attendance and punctuality are required from all students. This course requires about 2 hours of study/completion of activities outside class time. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e. progression to an advanced-level course. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress your individual learning aims will be established during the course. It is important that you are committed to regular attendance. You will have regular and constructive feedback from your tutor.
Regular homework is recommended for revision and consolidation ensuring that our learning outcomes are achieved. The tutor uses a learning platform to post material from the previous lesson and help you prepare for the forthcoming one. It is important that you have access to a computer for the duration of the course and that you consult that platform at least once a week. Free access to a computer can be obtained from the college library.
Pen and paper, any textbook required for the course will be negotiated by the tutor with students at the beginning of the course, connection to Internet and a device.
